Former foreign minister sworn in as Parliament Member

Mogadishu (RBC) The former foreign minister of Somalia Fawsiya Yusuf Haji Aden has been sworn in as a new Parliament Member after gaining a parliamentarian seat, RBC Radio reports.

Mrs Fawsiya Haji Aden has taken her official parliament seat today as the country’s lawmakers started to discuss the new 2014 budget.

According to fellow parliamentarians, Mrs Fawsiya Yusuf has won to take parliamentarian seat after convincing another lawmaker from her sub-clan to resign and transfer the seat to her.   Raxanreeb Online could not independently confirm if Mrs Aden paid for her predecessor.

Mrs Fawsiya Yusuf Haji Aden has served as the first female Foreign Affairs Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia between November 2012 and January 2014.  She lost her portfolio in the latest cabinet reshuffle in January.

Many Somalis see Mrs Aden’s term in office at the country’s foreign affairs ministry as positive achievement while others criticize her job for incompetence.
