Kuwait to re-open embassy in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU — Kuwait will re-open its embassy in Somalia, visiting First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said on Thursday.

Sheikh Sabah Khaled added in a press conference with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud in Mogadishu that Kuwait will cooperate with other Arab embassies to support development projects in Somalia.

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister is leading an Arab delegation on a one-day visit for talks with senior officials in the Horn of Africa country.

Over the coming period, the State of Kuwait will focus on enhancing development efforts in Somalia through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED).

On the aim of the visit by the Arab senior delegation, Sheikh Sabah Khaled said :”It carries a message of support from the Arab countries to Somali President, government and people.”

“We appreciate the program set by the Somali President to restore security and stability to Somalia,” the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister said, noting that the Arab League will offer all forms of support “since Somalia security is part of the Arab security.”

The delegation includes Mauritania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Ahmed Ould Teguedi and Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Al-Arabi.

Kuwait is the president of the current 25th Arab Summit, and Mauritania chairs the present session of the Arab League Council.
