Libya releases illegal Somali immigrants from custody.

maxBartamaha  (Nairobi):- The Libyan government has freed Somalis detained for illegally entering its territory, the Somali ambassador to the North African nation Abdi Qani Mohamed Waays revealed here on Monday.

During a telephone press conference for Mogadishu-based media, the Somali ambassador said that at least ten Somalis, mostly young men, were freed from Libyan custody adding that more others are due to be released in the near future.

“After more efforts and hard struggle, our embassy has achieved the release of these Somali youths from custody here in Libya and we will continue such until all Somali inmates in the country are freed,” the Somali diplomat said during his Monday’s tele-conference.

He said that the Libyan immigration department has pledged to help his embassy repatriate the released Somalis to their homeland.

“We are very grateful to the brother government of Libya which accepted our demand to free the Somalis in Libyan jails and the rest will be released in the near future—I am sure that, but I can’t fix the exact date of their release,” the ambassador added.

Libya is the main gateway that desperate African illegal immigrants including Somalis go through when they want to enter Europe in search of jobs and a better life, risking their lives during the adventure through the Mediterranean Sea which links North Africa and Europe.
