St. Paul, Minneapolis declare snow emergencies

2snow129photo_20091208125829_640_480MINNEAPOLIS – Minneapolis has declared a snow emergency, meaning no parking is allowed on either side of the street Wednesday night.

City crews have been plowing and treating streets to keep them drivable. A snow emergency will clear the streets, starting at 9 p.m. for a curb-to-curb plow of more than 1,000 miles of streets.

Minneapolis snow emergency parking rules

Dec. 9, 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. (Day 1)

Do not park on EITHER side of a Snow Emergency route until the street is fully plowed.

Thursday, Dec. 10, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Day 2)

Do not park on the EVEN side of a non-Snow Emergency route, or on EITHER side of a parkway until the street is fully plowed.

Friday, Dec. 11, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Day 3)

Do not park on the ODD side of a non-Snow Emergency route until the street is fully plowed.

Pre-emergency in St. Paul

St. Paul declared a pre-emergency situation Wednesday afternoon through the day Thursday. That means the city is salting main roads this and will have 23 plows on the road at 7 p.m. Wednesday to plow to the curb.

The city specified it would not declare a full snow emergency Wednesday and that normal parking restrictions would remain in place through the evening Wednesday. Th city said there would be no special tagging operation Wednesday night or during the daylight hours Thursday.

All snow emergencies in St. Paul start with night plow routes at 9 p.m. on the day of the declared snow emergency. Parking is banned on these routes until snow is plowed all the way to the curb.
