treasury ministerKanini Evans Kariuki — This morning, the minister who is presently in London, had an interview with the Al-Jazeera TV English channel, in which his interviewer demanded to know the size of the region the Somali government controls in the increasingly chaotic nation.

Before the minister´s response to the question, the interviewer outlined the background of the current situation in Somalia which indicates that the government only controls negligible pockets of Mogadishu– the capital city, and whereby the African forces are protecting these areas which without them, Mogadishu would have long fallen to then allied Al-Shabaab and Hisbul–Islam forces.

The minister, in his reply, confirmed the statement of the background of the current state of affairs, and blamed the International community for not supporting the government.

In his statement, he claimed that the government had gained control of Kismayu and the central region of Hiran.

What a farce, misinformation and disinformation?

The whole world knows that this is a white lie!

It is public knowledge that Hisbul-Islam controls Hiran, while Kismayu- the second most vital sea port in Somalia, is now being controlled by the Al-Shabaab who seized it yesterday after overpowering and outpacing the Hisbul-Islam forces!

The minister did not state that Punt land is within the fold of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG).

This indicates that President Shariff´s regime is only interested in the control and consolidation of power in Mogadishu- Somalia´s capital city.

In the course of the catchy interview in the Al-Jazeera television channel, the minister asserted : “the government has the legitimacy of the international community!”

But the interviewer asked him:”will the international legitimacy give you the power to control Somalia when you obviously lack the support of the Somali nation and control of the land?”

The minister replied that the government could retain both the support of the people, and control of the land. Really, Mr minister?

As the interview progressed, the high-ranking Treasury minister explained that should the Somali government secure financial support, the cash boost could lead to the establishment of government institutions.

This man is creating the wrong impression to the world!

His statements are curiously riddled with contradictions and plain dishonesty, and either the minister is oblivious to the correct situation in Somalia, or is hell-bent on sweeping the genuine facts under the carpet to appease his masters and take the whole world for a ride!

Dishonesty, lies and propaganda should not abound in such a serious situation that is Somalia. Truth and the whole truth should prevail. That is as it should be.

But when a top government minister unashamedly embarks on a campaign of deliberate misrepresentation of facts and issues, one cannot help wondering if the entire administration has not metamorphosed into a cheap propaganda mill.

The Somali government lacks the vision and know-how of management of public affairs, and the skill of running and uniting the country.

I have stated this again and again in my many articles on the troubled Horn of Africa nation. I do so for the umpteenth time.

The Treasury minister clearly avoided mentioning or admitting this during the London interview. He was only pursuing the line of insincerity!

To put it politely, he has no business being an official of the government

Why can´t he resign from his position or get sacked for desperately struggling to hoodwink the world into consuming his untruth´s? Does he think the world is gullible?
