UNITED NATIONS- The Security Council on Thursday said that it is “outraged” by a terrorist attack on a UN convoy near the international airport of Mogadishu, the Somali capital, reiterating its determination to combat all forms of terrorism.

The members of the Security Council, in a statement issued to the press, extended their condolences to the victims and their families, as well as to the people and government of Somalia.

The members of the Security Council underscored their determination to stand by the people of Somalia as they seek peace and stability, reaffirming that this and other acts of terrorism would not weaken that determination, the statement said.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon earlier Thursday condemned the attack, saying that he “remains determined to support the Somali government in preventing such attacks and holding the perpetrators accountable.”

A vehicle exploded close to a UN convoy near the Mogadishu International Airport at about 12:30 local time on Thursday, killing six Somalis, according to media reports.

The Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
