VIDEO: Somali Prime Minister Visits Tiyeglow

Somalia PMTiyeglow (Bartamaha) The Somali Prime Minister H.E Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed has appealed for urgent humanitarian assistance for the people of the newly liberated town of Tiyeeglow, in Bakool region.

The call was made during his visit to the town yesterday, accompanied by ministers including the Somali Defense Minister Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Hamud, Heritage and Higher Education Minister Duale Aden Mohamed, Commerce Minister Aden Mohamed Nur and the Head of the Somali Military Court Col. Abdirahman Mohamed Turyare. The delegation met and held discussions with senior AMISOM officials led by the AMISOM Ethiopian troops commander Brig. Gen Gebremedhin Fikadu, among other engagements.

Tiyeeglow is located approximately 530 km North-east of the capital Mogadishu and lies along the main road from Baidoa to Beletweyne and further to the central regions in Somalia connecting the south to the north of the country. Al-Shabaab used to heavily charge money from vehicles plying the route as part of their illegal extortion racket in Somalia.
The town was liberated over a week ago by AMISOM Ethiopian troops, as the ongoing offensive against al Shabaab kicked off.

Speaking during the Prime Minister’s visit, the residents called for assistance especially with food supplies.

“Today we have welcomed the Somali Government Prime Minister and the security of the town is very good. The residents are also very happy that the Prime Minister has visited our town. The major problem the town faced while under the control of al Shabaab was the arbitrary arrests. This season, there are no crops coming from the farms because of the drought, so we request for urgent humanitarian assistance to bring us food and also to the villages around Tiyeeglowl,” said Adan Abdi Mohamed, a resident of Tiyeeglow.
