White House Meets With Ohio, Minn. Mayors to discuss the threat of domestic radicalization (Somalis)

coleman[ DAILYGA.COM ]The mayors of the biggest cities in Ohio and Minnesota met with White House officials to discuss the threat of domestic radicalization and ways the government can help cities address this threat.

Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman’s meeting Tuesday in Washington came as investigations continue around the country into alleged terrorist plots hatched at home. A spokesman for Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak says he participated by telephone.

Coleman spokesman Dan Williamson says the mayor discussed a Columbus initiative that gives immigrants access to city services and programs.

Possible online recruiting by overseas Somali terrorists is a concern in Columbus and Minneapolis because of their large Somali populations.

There’s no evidence anyone in Columbus has returned to Somalia to join terrorist groups, but the travels of as many as 20 young Somali men from Minneapolis have been investigated.
