The Canadian Somali Congress invites you to a Canadian Somali Community Town hall meeting with the Federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney and Transport Minister John Baird.  The meeting will enable engagement with the Government of Canada on immigration issues affecting the Canadian Somali community for a long time.  These issues include delays in spousal and family reunifications sponsorships, immigration backlogs and other problems.  The community will also get an update from the Transport Minister John Baird who recently made a trip to Ethiopia in order to push Ethiopian officials to release Canadian citizen Bashir Makhtal.  We want to welcome you to this event that is primarily a town hall meeting immigration but will also serve as an opportunity for us as a community to move the Bashir Makhtal case forward.

Town hall meeting hosted by the Canadian Somali Congress at Saint Paul University on Sunday March 28, 2010 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney and Transport Minister John Baird will come to this town hall meeting in order to enable the Canadian Somali community to engage them on issues of importance to them such as:

1. Problems encountered by Canadian Somalis at borders and airports

1. Immigration backlog issues faced by members of the community

1. Delays faced by Canadian Somalis in spousal and family reunification sponsorships

1. Problems faced by Canadian Somalis when they travel abroad

1. Possibility of the Canadian government to introduce a limited humanitarian airlift of Somali refugees into Canada similar to the airlift that was carried out by the Canadian government for Vietnamese refugees

1. Update and resolution to the Bashir Makhtal case
