USBartamaha (CHICAGO ):- The United States on Friday deported a Somali-born Canadian national who pleaded guilty to attending an Al-Qaeda training camp in Afghanistan and said he met Osama bin Laden.

Mohammed Warsame, 37, was turned over to Canadian officials at about 12:30 pm (1630 GMT), the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said.

“There is no place in this country for anyone who advocates violence by associating, supporting or conspiring with terrorists,” ICE director John Morton said in a statement.

“ICE will use every tool at our disposal to protect the American people and remove those who pose a threat to our national security.”

Warsame attended the Minneapolis Community and Technical College prior to his December 2003 arrest.

He was indicted in January 2004 and was sentenced to nearly eight years in prison with credit for time served after pleading guilty in May 2009 to providing material support to terrorists.

Warsame traveled to Afghanistan in March 2000 and spent three to five months attending a terror training camp near Kabul and observing combat between the Taliban and the Northern Alliance, ICE said citing court documents.

He then traveled to the Al-Faruq training camp, where he received further military training and met bin Laden, whom he described as “very inspirational,” and later fought for the Taliban.

After making his way home to Canada via Pakistan and London in March 2001, Warsame maintained contact with Al-Qaeda contacts by e-mail and sent money and advice on how to enter Canada, ICE said.
