Bartamaha (Sirta):- The Arab extraordinary summit attended by 15 state leaders in Libyan city of Sirte closed Saturday evening after discussing the Arab League (AL) reform, Arab neighborhood policies and other key regional issues.
The AL chief Amr Moussa declared the statement which includes developing joint Arab action mechanism, boosting Arab neighborhood bonds and Arab concerns particularly on Sudan, Yemen and Somali.
The statement condemned the terrorist activities in Yemen, reaffirming the AL’s support on Yemeni government to fight terrorism.
The AL will cooperate with the United Nations and the African Union on supervising the southern Sudan referendum to be held in January 2011, calling for the concerning parties in Sudanese peace process to accept the result of referendum, the statement said.
The statement reiterated that Sudan’s sovereignty should be respected and any attempt to diminish Sudanese territory should be objected.
Moussa expressed his appreciation on the five-party committee’s efforts on promoting the joint Arab action mechanism. The five countries, including Libya, Iraq, Egypt, Qatar and Yemen, held talks in Tripoli on strengthening joint actions among Arab countries in June 2010 and presented their advices to the extra summit.
All member states of the AL participating the extra summit has agreed upon the five-party committee’s initiative on developing joint action, the statement said.
The AL chief also recommended studying the possibilities of establishing an Arab neighbor forum through a member-opened ministerial council.
The Arab leaders also decided to grant 1 billion U.S. dollar to Sudanese government, 10 million U.S dollars per month to Somali to help the two countries develop their economy and maintain the national security.
